How to Remove a PDF Password Without Uploading the File

There are two reasons people look for a way to unlock a PDF: a file blocks printing or copying, or a file asks for a password just to open. The fix is different for each, and the safe way to do either is on your own device. Uploading a protected file to a cloud unlocker means handing a server both the document and, often, the password that protects it.

Two kinds of PDF protection

It helps to know which lock you have. Editing restrictions, sometimes called an owner or permissions password, let the file open normally but block printing, copying, or editing.
